The bridge of Arta

The legendary bridge of Arta, landmark of the town, took its final form in 1612. However the foundations of the bridge show that at this place existed already a bridge dated back to the classic or hellenistic years. The last addition was made during the years of Ottoman domination, when the paving rose, and therefore the bridge acquired its current form.

Hrisospiliotissa (Gourgiana)

The temple took its current form in 1663, when an older temple was revamped at the place. Its murals and wooden glyphs are dated back in 1801.

Megalohari

It was built probably in the middle of 17th century, at the place of another older temple.  The village with the same name was named after this temple.

Abbey of Seltsos (Piges)

From the buildings of the old monastery, only the temple is saved entirely, while around it, there are devastated cells. The temple was founded in 1697, when the murals and the iconostasis were also created, and is dedicated to the Sleeping of Virgin Mary. Also great is the historical importance of the Abbey, because in 1804 over one thousand Souliotes were locked themselves in there in order not to get caught by the Turkalbans of Ali Pasa. After a four-month siege, the monastery was conquered, and only fifty Souliotes were saved, while women and children, in order not to fall in the hands of Turks, jumped from a cliffside 300 metres high.

Saint George (Vourgareli)

The monastery was founded in the beginning of 18th Century and today is preserved in a most excellent situation, while the temple is full of murals of 1714. Here the chieftains of Tzoumerka and Radovyzia raised the flag of Revolution of 1821.

Panagia of Rodia (Vigla)

It is found at the banks of the lagoon with the same name, near the village Vigla. The initial temple was demolished in 1860 and the current one was built. It is honoured in the Sleeping of Virgin Mary. It has impressive murals.

The monastery of Sleeping of Virgin Mary (Skoulikaria)

It is a devastated monastery of which the temple is entirely saved. The initial monastery was destroyed in 1854 from Turks and was built again in 1867. The thing that made famous is that in there, one of the most glorious heroes of the revolution of 1821, Georgjos Karaiskakis was born.
