The Natura 2000 network is a European Ecological Network of regions, which are hosting natural types of ecotopes and ecotopes of species that are important at a European level. It is consisted by two categories of regions: The "Special Protection Areas (SPA) for the Poultry founa, and the "Sites of Community Importance (SCI).
The Network's implementation in Greece
The registering of areas that fulfil the criteria of the presence of types of ecotopes and ecotopes of species of the Directive 92/43/EK in our country was accomplished by a team of roughly 100 scientists that was established specifically for this cause in the line of the European program LIFE (1994-1996) titled "Recording, Recognition, Estimation and Mapping of Types of Ecotopes and Greek Species of Flora and Fauna (Directive 92/43/EOK)". In the "Scientific List" almost all protected regions at a national and international level were included
